HJC News – Vayeitzei

At Shalosh Seudos this week, we will be discussing the lives and contributions of Rav Yisroel Taub and Rav Shaul Taub, the first two Modzitzer Rebbes, whose yortzeits are this coming week.

I will be giving the third shiur in a Series of Shiurim reviewing Hilchos Shabbos, this Sunday at 8:00 PM at the Shul.  The first shiurim are available for listening and downloading on the Shul’s Website: http://www.hjcs.org/audioclass.php  In all likelihood, the series will need to be extended by at least one week. 

Deena Davidovich’s class for women takes place on Mondays at a new time: 11 AM, and is moving to the home of Rochel Leah Cohen, 3681 Shannon Rd. in Cleveland Heights.  The class is currently studying Eishes Chayil in depth, and the lives of women in Tanach.

The Garden of Peace Shiur will be held this coming Thursday night at 8 PM.
 

Starting Sunday December 6 after Shacharis, we will be starting a monthly breakfast, with an Ask-The-Rabbi format, or in the absence of any questions, discussions on controversial topics.  Sponsorships are available for the breakfasts.

A Used Book Fair will take at the Shul on Sunday December 6 between 9 AM and 5 PM.  For more information, and to donate your used books, please email booksale@hjcs.org.

HJC News – Toldos

The Shul extends its condolences to Peter Baum on the passing of his mother Sonya Baum.  Peter is sitting shiva till this afternoon at his home, 2358 Milton.

Kiddush this Shabbos is sponsored by Yossi and Channa Ireland in honor of their son Aharon’s seventh birthday, and Shaul and Yocheved Wylen in honor of their son Ezra’s third birthday.

Garden of Peace Chabura tonight at 8PM

The Married Men’s Chabura studying Rabbi Shalom Arush’s book “Garden of Peace” will meet tonight at Heights Jewish Center at 8:00PM.  All married men from the community are welcome to attend.  The book is available at the local Jewish Book Stores.

Baum Shiva Information

Peter Baum will return to Cleveland to sit shiva for his mother on Tuesday evening at his home, 2358 Milton Rd., Univ. Hts. until Friday afternoon.

HJC News- Chayei Sarah

The Shul extends its condolences to Mrs Sophie Hofmann on the passing of her husband Rabbi Justin Hofmann. Mrs Hofmann and her daughters are sitting Shiva through Wednesday morning at the Greenfeld residence, 2549 Lafayette.

At Shalosh Seudos this week, we will be discussing the life and Torah of Rav Aharon Kotler, the founding Rosh Yeshiva of Beis Medrash Govoha in Lakewood.

I will be giving the first shiur in a Three-Part Series of Shiurim reviewing Hilchos Shabbos, this Sunday at 8:00 PM at the Shul. 

Deena Davidovich’s class for women is moving to Mondays at 10:30 AM, at the home of Kochava Joel, 3790 Severn in Cleveland Heights.  The class is currently studying Eishes Chayil in depth, and the lives of women in Tanach.

The Garden of Peace Shiur has resumed, and is taking place at the Shul on Thursday evenings at 8:00 PM.  All married men are encouraged to attend.

Please note: The Shul’s website inadvertently listed only Wednesday as Rosh Chodesh. Rosh Chodesh this week is on Tuesday AND Wednesday.  Shacharis on both those days is at 6:30 AM.

Rabbi Justin Hofmann A"H

Our condolences to Mrs. Sophie Hofmann and her family on the passing of Rabbi Justin Hofmann. The funeral will be today, Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 2:00pm at Berkowitz Kumin. 

Burial will take place at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, corner of SOM Center Rd. and White Rd. in Mayfield Village. 

Shiva will be at the home of Rabbi and Mrs Hofmann’s daughter Rena Greenfeld, 2549 Lafayette Dr., through Wednesday morning. 

There will be no minyanim at the house.

HJC News – Vayeira

Our condolences to Claire Lefkowitz and her children, and Goldie Skolnick on the passing of Art Lefkowitz this week. They are sitting Shiva at the Lefkowitz home 4109 Stilmore till Monday morning.

Zman Krias Shema this Shabbos is at 9:37 AM.

The last meeting of the current Board will take place this Wednesday at 8PM.  All current Board members and their spouses are invited to attend.

Please take advantage of the learning opportunities available here at the shul.

  • Shalosh Seudos will be devoted to looking at the life of someone whose Yortzeit was the past or upcoming week. This Shabbos we will speak about Shlomo Carlebach.
  • Starting next Sunday November 15 at 8 PM, we will start a three part series on Hilchos Shabbos.
  • Resuming next Monday November 16, Deena will be giving her Women’ Class on Mondays at 10:30 AM, on Severn Road in Cleveland Heights. 
  • The Garden of Peace Chabura will resume on Thursday nights at 8 PM at the shul.  All married men are welcome to attend.  The Chabura will have a short Shabbos component as well.
